Choose PVC-Free

N.E.W. Plastics Corp. and its business units do not produce material containing PVC.

PVC-Free: Why PVC-Free Is Important To N.E.W. Plastics Corp.

PVC, vinyl, or polyvinyl chloride, is a plastic commonly used in consumer products including building supplies, cars, toys, and other goods. Neither RENEW Plastics or the N.E.W. Plastics Corp. Blow Molding business unit uses PVC in its products.

Reasons for being PVC-free include:

  • The chlorine-dependant production of PVC results in the release of dioxins and other toxins into the environment that create health risks including cancer and damage to the immune and reproductive systems.

  • Many types of PVC also contain phthalates, lead and cadmium, chemicals used to soften and stabilize the plastics. These are also known carcinogens.

  • In addition to the health risks and toxins released by its manufacture, PVC cannot be easily recycled. It is considered to be a contaminant to many existing recycling programs due to the chemicals in its composition. It cannot be incinerated for the same reasons - burning it releases dioxins and other toxins into the environment.

Major corporations such as Microsoft, Target, Kmart, Sears, Nike, and Wal-Mart have already committed to removing PVC from their packaging, and many other companies are following suit. To check for PVC in your packaging and products, look for a number 3 or the letter v inside or underneath the recycling symbol.
